Slight Majority Agrees with U.S. Action Against Terrorism

ARLINGTON, Texas - About 53% of Americans believe the government is taking the right steps to keep terrorism at a minimum, according to a recent Internet survey by Decision Analyst, Inc.,  a leading international marketing research firm.

At the same time, 47% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction. Specifically, 31% said the government "is not providing the protection it should," and 16% said the government "is taking away too many freedoms to provide protection."

For its August "2002 Personal Opinion and Lifestyle Study," Decision Analyst asked 3,136 Americans about their views on terrorism. The 35- to 44-year-olds had the highest percentage of those who believe the government is "proceeding at the right pace to keep terrorism at a minimum" (57%), the survey shows. They were followed by 45-to-54 age group (54%), 25-to-34 (51%), 55 or over (50%), and 18 to 24 (49%). The same statistics for "not providing enough protection" and "taking too many freedoms' are shown below."

For its "2002 Personal Opinion and Lifestyle Study", Decision Analyst drew on a balanced sample of 3,136 American Consumer OpinionT members. The study's margin of error is +/- 2% at a 95% confidence level. The survey was conducted from August 5th to August 12th, 2002.
