Over 64% Of Americans Now Have Internet Access
ARLINGTON, Texas Over 64% of Americans now have access to the Internet,
an increase of about 11% in the past year, according to a nationwide November
telephone survey conducted by Decision Analyst, Inc., one of the nation's
leading marketing research firms. In November the year before, only 53% of
respondents had Internet access.
Although Internet access is growing across the board, home access is
leading the charge. Internet access at home has increased dramatically in the
past 12 months, but work access has grown slowly, said Jerry W. Thomas,
President/CEO Decision Analyst, Inc. Employers appear to be reluctant to
give all employees access to the Internet.
The most dramatic change in access to the Internet occurred among the
55-to-64 age group, Thomas said. Among this age group Internet
access increase 19 percentage points in the past year, from 53% in November
1999 to 72% in November 2000.
See the attached graphs for more detailed information. Conducted in November,
this Decision Analyst survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2%.
The company is a world leader in Internet marketing research. The company
operates a worldwide consumer opinion panel with more than 2.5 million members.
Question: Do you currently have online access to the
Internet, either at home, at work, at school, or at other locations (that is,
places other than home, work or school)?
